Nintendo launched a new Switch: upgrade OLED screen but it is not Switch Pro

The long-rumored Nintendo Switch OLED model has finally been announced. The updated version of the popular hybrid handheld/home console will be available worldwide starting October 8 for $349.99.

However, it’s not the Switch Pro, which means the hardware specs are roughly the same, with no 4Kor NVIDIA DLSS support (but 1080p output support), and the only major change being the new 7-inch display for a different structure.

The Switch OLED has a larger 7-inch 720p OLED display. This new model uses NVIDIA’s upgraded graphics chip, enabling the handheld to output at 1080p when connected to a TV. Switch OLED models will be available for sale starting October 8 for $350.

In addition to the new screen, this revised model includes an adjustable stand for tabletop gaming, 64GB of built-in storage (up from 32GB), a new dock with a built-in wired Ethernet port, and improved audio for handheld or tabletop gaming.

This updated version of the Switch has been buzzing in recent months, and the new version comes nearly two years after the release of Nintendo’s Switch Lite, a smaller, cheaper version that users can’t connect to a TV. the Switch Lite debuted in September 2019 for $199.

Nintendo’s Switch has sold so well that the console has dominated the U.S. sales charts for nearly two consecutive years. Since its launch in 2017, the Switch has sold 84.59 million units lifetime, a number that is getting closer to the Wii console’s final sales mark of 101.63 million units. This updated Switch model is bound to help drive sales even closer to the Wii’s level.
